DiGiorgio Associates is assisting Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) with the development of their new Massachusetts headquarters. We feel privileged to have the opportunity to provide preliminary design services to an organization that promotes so much joy and pride to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The new Special Olympics Massachusetts headquarters, a 20,000 square foot facility, will house their new executive offices along with support facilities to accommodate up to 800 coaches, volunteers and staff who will attend educational and training seminars. In addition, there will be 4,000 square feet of flexible classroom space that will serve a dual purpose of allowing for fundraising and banquet functions.
The building design will complement the mission of Special Olympics through the inclusion of the mission statement and motivational quotations within its facade. A processional walkway leading to a plaza containing a "Hall of Fame" will introduce visitors to the unique nature of this facility. As they enter the lobby, further images and interactive displays will reinforce the educational aspects of the organization.
