DiGiorgio Associates Inc. (DAI) has worked with Emerson Hospital on several projects culminating with Project SCORE. Our initial assignment was to design a new 4,100 square foot urgent care, Emergency Department. A new Gift Shop area consisting of 3,900 square feet and a new connection to the existing Cafeteria have also been completed. The next project we designed for Emerson was the Mammography Center, a 7,100 square foot suite.
Over the past several years, hospitals in New England have found themselves at a crossroads in their healthcare delivery capabilities based primarily on patient volume, staffing levels, and technology. A transformation in the approach to patient care is also driving facility changes. Emerson Hospital embarked on a planning process to assess their operation. In 2006, they launched Project SCORE to bring a multitude of enhancements to their campus located in Concord, Massachusetts.
DAI was chosen to assist the hospital develop a plan that would significantly enhance key service components. The new Clough Surgical Center increases their surgical capacity by 33 percent. Improved patient access and patient privacy were focal points of the design. A new post-anesthesia care (PACU) unit is designed with more direct access to the patients for the attending nurses. Interventional Radiology is being transformed to accommodate new technology and will double as an OR. The design for Obstetrics yielded 24 private rooms, an enhanced experience for expectant mothers and their loved ones.
On June 28, 2006, Emerson Hospital broke ground on this ambitious project. A meticulously planned timeline guided a multi-phased construction schedule through its completion in 2008. The end result is a new West Building with a combined expansion and renovation total of 86,000 square feet.
