DiGiorgio Associates Inc. (DAI) and Monitor Builders Inc. (MBI) have been providing planning, design and construction management services for Southcoast Hospitals Group of Massachusetts for over a decade. The St. Luke's Hospital Emergency Department and Inpatient Tower project that opened in 2007 began with the development of a Clinical Priorities Strategic Plan that addressed patient volume, new technology, and enhancing staff retention and recruitment. The scope encompassed 94,000 square feet of additions and renovations that were implemented in multiple phases while maintaining the integrity of the hospital’s operations. As one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Massachusetts, St. Luke’s new facility is designed with universally sized, private rooms arranged in pods for Observation, Express Care, and Behavioral around an Acute Care Hub. These pods can open or close based upon the patient population. The ability of the department size to flex greatly reduces the amount of patient wait time.
The three-story patient tower project added 33 rooms (19 private) with six amenity rooms. Additional components of this ambitious project include a new 6,100 square foot Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Suite and the 112-seat McBratney Amphitheatre.
