Community Health Programs (CHP) currently serves more than 5,000 patients annually for the area of “South County” Massachusetts which encompasses 16 towns. The CHP Health Center is a comprehensive medical practice. It is a Federally Qualified Health Center, and is the only primary care provider in Berkshire County that is accessible to all people regardless of insurance status, immigrant status, or ability to pay. They provide preventive, acute and ongoing medical care for infants, children, adults and elders.
DAI is currently designing the CHP Health Center which is conveniently located on a major roadway leading to the town center of Great Barrington. The existing building is a 4,800 square foot one story wood frame structure with an additional 1,200 square feet of open area under the roof structure. The design calls for renovating the interior and enclosing the open area. The program includes 9 adult exam rooms, 3 pediatrics exam rooms, 1 procedure room, and clinical support functions such as a lab, blood draw station, utility rooms, public waiting area and administrative offices. This project will support other CHP core programs. There will also be consultation rooms for the Community Health Access Program and Nutrition Services.
Construction documents are slated to be completed this summer for submission to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for plan review, and construction is expected to begin this fall.
